However, \u2018sustainability\u2019 is more than a recent buzzword and embraces a much broader philosophy and practice. If we consider \u2018sustainability\u2019 as an ecosystem, a lifestyle, a community or a world that is capable of supporting itself and its surroundings indefinitely, we believe \u2018sustainability\u2019 is an equally important concept for scholars and students of all disciplines \u2013 social sciences, arts and humanities, or Taiwan Studies generally.<\/p>\n<p>The 15th Annual Conference of the European Association of Taiwan Studies (EATS) adopts a broadly defined theme of \u2018sustainability\u2019 and invites researchers of all backgrounds to address the following questions: How have the people on Taiwan survived political, social and cultural challenges? How may Taiwan contribute to a more sustainable world in the future? What are the issues facing the islanders today to maintain their lifestyles and what solutions to them could be proposed? Are Tsai Ing-wen\u2019s approaches to transitional justice, gender equality, cross-strait relations, economic growth, environment, and cultural development
