Young Scholar\u2019s Conference in Brno (YSC Brno):<\/strong><\/p>\n

Approaches to Language, Culture and Society<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cYoung Scholar\u2019s Conference in Brno\u201d is an annual event jointly organized by the Center for Chinese Studies of Masaryk University (Czech Republic), Soochow University (Taiwan) and the Taiwanese Student Association in the Czech Republic. The aim of the event is to promote academic and cultural interaction between young scholars from the Mandarin-speaking world and Central Europe.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The inaugural conference was hosted by the Center for Chinese Studies of Masaryk University on 29-30 March, 2017, in the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. The second conference will take place\u00a025-26 March, 2018<\/span>\u00a0(Sunday<\/span>–Monday<\/span>)<\/strong>\u00a0also in the\u00a0Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are pleased to have the following experts as the plenary speakers of the conference:<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Assoc. Prof. Lucie Olivov\u00e1, MA, Ph.D., DSc. (Masaryk University)<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Prof. C. S. Stone Shih, Ph.D. (Soochow University)<\/p>\n

Students are invited to give a\u00a015-minute presentation proposal<\/strong>\u00a0in the field of their own expertise, including, but not limited to the following areas. This year, the conference bears a theme of\u00a0\u201cIdentity Formation and Modernity\u201d<\/strong>, with a special focus on Mandarin-speaking regions or Central Europe. We particularly welcome submissions that deal with the following issues:<\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Identity formation,<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Interaction between language, culture and society,<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Art, history and literature,<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Religious and philosophical studies,<\/strong><\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Social and political studies,<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Formation of modernity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Presentations should be given in the presenter\u2019s second language (i.e. if you are a student from Taiwan\/China, please use English, whereas a student from the Czech\/Slovak Republic will use Mandarin).<\/p>\n

Proposals of presentation should be directly sent to the Conference Secretary, Dr. Wei-lun Lu\u00a0\u5442\u7dad\u502b, at\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

wllu@phil.muni.cz<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>by 10 December, 2017. The proposal should contain a title in BOTH English AND Mandarin, the full name of the presenter, and a short abstract for the presentation (ca. 150 words in English). For queries, also get in touch with Dr. Lu.<\/p>\n

There will be a guided city walk and a campus tour on\u00a025 March<\/span>. The conference dinner will be on 25 March.<\/p>\n
