The conference will use both theoretical and empirical perspectives in order to explore the evolution of relations between Taiwan and Mainland China since the late 1980s, with a particular emphasis on important but hitherto under-researched issues related to cross-Strait globalization-security linkages.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The conference plans to investigate four major areas:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>theoretical approaches to the study of cross-Strait relations;<\/li>\n<li>globalization forces underpinning bilateral ties;<\/li>\n<li>security issues facing Taipei and Beijing;<\/li>\n<li>the impact of globalization on security in the dyadic context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Twelve papers will be presented at the conference. Motifs for discussion will include, for instance: rationalist models of conflict and the relationship across the Strait; cross-border mergers and acquisitions between China and Taiwan; cyber warfare across the Strait and its implications for the USA; transnational crimes in the Cross-Strait context; and the impact of production globalization on defense and technological security across the Strait, with special reference to the strategically important semiconductor industry.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>To register, contact Dr Ming-chin Monique Chu
