Taiwan in the Globalized World: Relevance of Taiwan Studies to Social Sciences and Humanities

The 3rd World Congress of Taiwan Studies (WCTS) will be held at Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan, on September 6ththrough 8th, 2018. The general theme of this Congress is Taiwan in the Globalized World, with focus on the relevance of Taiwan Studies to Social Sciences and Humanities.

There are 20 panels to be planned for paper presentations and discussions, including 16 English panels and 4 Chinese panels. We have completed the initial round of panel planning and now would like to invite submission of papers on the following topics:

  1. Contributions of Taiwan studies to the making of truly globalized social sciences and humanities
  2. Taiwan in the new millennium: great transformation
  3. The 3rd regime changes and the future of democracy
  4. The making of a diverse ethnic society and new civic nationalism
  5. The Taiwanese Millennials and their political inclinations
  6. The new faces of art, films, and literature
  7. Class, ethnicity and gender: inequality and movements
  8. The dynamics and future of Taiwan’s political future vis-a-vis China

Important Dates

Abstract submission deadline: November 10th, 2017
Acceptance notification: December 11th, 2017
Final paper due: August 5th, 2018

Abstract should only be submitted online at http://www.ios.sinica.edu.tw/wcts/regPaper/form.php

The text of abstract is supposed to be no more than 600 words and the deadline is November 10th, 2017.

Local Accommodation Reimbursement

For those participants with accepted papers, we will offer the local expense for accommodation for up to 4 nights (from Sep. 5th through Sep. 8th) and meals (breakfast and the daily lunch during the conference period, and welcome and fare well dinners).
